Gallery Talk - Adam Magyar: Transformer Station 2013.04.06

Gallery Talk by Adam Magyar:

Kontinuum: Looking at the human quest through unconventional photographic devices

April 12, 6pm
Admission free

Internationally-recognized photographic innovator Adam Magyar will speak about his work at a special event in the Main Gallery of the Transformer Station on Friday, April 12 at 6PM. Three of his works from the series Stainless are currently on view in the show Light of Day. These large-scale images of subway cars from New York, Paris and Tokyo are photographed while hurtling down subway tunnels and yet they appear to be frozen in a quiet timeless space. Typical of Magyar's work, these images reveal the complexity of modern life and challenge our identities as individuals in the seething urban crowd. Adam Magyar will share his work as a photographer and filmmaker who uses high-tech digital tools and cameras adapted from industrial applications to examine the human "factory".

This program is sponsored by The Friends of Photography, the photography affinity group of The Cleveland Museum of Art.

Beer, wine and refreshments will be served with donations accepted for the benefit of the Transformer Station. Admission is free.

Building the Circle 2035: Height, Density and Social Equity

Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 6:00 p.m.
Gartner Auditorium
11150 East Boulevard
Cleveland, OH 44106
Circle Neighbors
Moderator: Steven Litt, Art and Architecture Critic, The Plain Dealer. Panel: Chris Ronayne, President, UCI Inc; Ari Maron, Partner, MRN Ltd.; and India Pierce Lee, Program Director for Neighborhoods, Housing, and Community, Cleveland Foundation.
University Circle is on a roll. With jobs, development and non-profit institutions on the rise, land within the district will rise in value, and along with it, the pressure to build taller buildings and more densely populated areas.
Join us as we look a couple of decades ahead at the future of Cleveland's premier medical, educational and cultural district. University Circle already offers national examples on how anchor institutions, developers, foundations and local government can collaborate to nurture growth. What's coming next?
Our discussion will tally University Circle's successes to date and examine the planning policies and principles that will shape University Circle in years to come. The conversation will touch on specific areas that appear destined for redevelopment and examine how rising wealth in the district could benefit surrounding neighborhoods. Most important, we'll look at where the biggest opportunities lie for University Circle—and how the district and the city can make the most of them.
For reservations: 216-707-2527 or visit WCCMA.net and click the RSVP button.
Circle Neighbors is a free lecture series sponsored by the Womens Council of the Cleveland Museum of Art in collaboration with the Cleveland Botanical Garden, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, The Women's Committee of The Cleveland Orchestra, and the Western Reserve Historical Society.

University of Toronto Daniels has a youtube channel!

UofTDaniels

I admit, there is something about lectures and podcasts from extremely intelligent people that can make my whole dang day. Perhaps I work under the assumption that if I watch enough TED talks I will absorb some brilliance or at the very least get to see some more robotic birds fly around an auditorium.

Recently I re-discovered that Daniels Faculty of Architecture at University of Toronto has their own youtube channel where they post their lectures and what not. I admit, I am a Daniel's fanboy. If only I had known about that university when thinking on grad school (and not being so in debt that I went to my fallback fallback's).

So there it is, enjoy. What else are you going to do at work, draw restroom elevations? You're welcome.
