So....8 weeks later and the HOJO still stands? Amazing.

The city of Cleveland had begun the demolition process in June. The current owners complained they weren't given proper notice and a judge offered a 3 week injunction. However the owners (Lakeview 2006 LLC) recently were given until August 20 to provide some sort of proof that they had been in the process of rehabilitating the site as per the sweet rendering sign that has been posted.

Sure the building is pretty dilapidated and probably didn't even function well as a hotel. Condos though seem to be the quick fix all band-aid to any problem (pre 2008), but with the new housing market I think people are catching on. However the current state of the structure is highly questionable and may not even be fixable which may leave the city in a questionable position if the property owners are proven in the right.

Also, City Council members are Not Pleased.

  1. I was amazed to see the huge hole in the side of the building when driving by for the air show. This building has had more owners in the past 15 years and yet it stands.

It is ashamed that a structure of this type has not been torn down or rehabbed. I would venture to say the building was structually sound until the wrecking ball took it's few wacks but have my doubts now.

With it being in such a prime location....what gives? Why has the city tolerated this building to exist in its condition over the past years? Why hasn't the local council woman thrown her wait around to get something done with this building? Why hasn't one of the local non-profits group got involved?

The building still had the potential to be returned to a hotel or condos with one or two restaurants back in place.

The building could have been rehabbed in 2-4 phases allowing the rehabbed portion to open for business while the rest of the rehabbed finished.

Hey wait....why not implode the thing and be done with it all together and start from scratch.

    Just my 2 cents.
